Privacy Policy

Goodnabe is a neighbourhood app. This policy says what we collect, what we do with it, and what we deliberately do not do. Where something is a limitation rather than a promise, we say that too.
What we collect
- Account info: email address, display name, and a profile photo if you add one.
- Location: used to find your community and nearby content. Neighbours can see roughly how far away you are, rounded to the nearest quarter mile — never where you are. Your coordinates are never shown to another user.
- Content you post: shoutouts, volunteer needs, lost pet reports, listings, petitions, comments and messages.
- Device info: a push notification token, and your device model and OS version, if you turn notifications on.
- Crash reports: diagnostics when the app fails, sent to a crash reporting server we run ourselves.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data.
- We don't track you across the web. There is no analytics SDK in this app of any kind.
- We don't share your data with third parties for marketing.
- We don't use engagement mechanics designed to keep you here longer.
- We don't offer social login, so no third party learns that you use this app.
Advertising
Local businesses can post a plain notice. Business notices target you only by your community's ZIP code, nothing about you. Everyone in that ZIP sees the same ones. Nothing you do in the app — what you read, tap, post or search — changes which notices you get, and your device location is never used to pick one.
Where your data goes
Your data is stored on servers we control. Everything in transit is encrypted (HTTPS/WSS), and backups are encrypted. We retain your data only as long as your account is active.
Three services necessarily see some of it, and only to do a job for us: Apple and Google deliver push notifications, and our email provider sends account email such as password resets and invites. Notification previews include a short excerpt of a message, so that excerpt passes through Apple or Google on its way to the recipient's device.
Chat is not end-to-end encrypted. We store messages so we can deliver them, which means we could read them. We would rather say that plainly than imply a protection we have not built.
Moderation
Communities govern themselves. A community's founder moderates it and can appoint neighbours they trust. Moderators see only what someone chose to report — there is no way for a moderator to browse content, search a person's history, or open a conversation. Those abilities do not exist in the software.
Reporting a private message copies that one message to the moderators of your community, and nothing else from the thread. Moderators are not shown who filed a report.
Your rights
- Delete: you can delete your account and everything personal in it, from Profile → Delete Account. If a moderator handled a report about something you posted, the record that a decision was made is kept — with your name and your content removed from it. See how to delete your data.
- Export: email us and we will send you a copy of your data.
- Correct: you can update your information at any time.
- Block: you can block another neighbour. It is private — they are not told, it carries no penalty, and you can undo it.
- Opt out: you control which notifications you receive.
Children
Goodnabe is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that affects you, we will tell you in the app rather than quietly updating this page.
